  3. What can it do? (click!)
  4. General Remarks about Prompting (click!)
  5. Custom Instructions / Confidence Level [short clips: to view click link, then "download" in head on next page]

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1     Practising and assessing speaking:

Tool 1: "GLIGLISH":  https://gliglish.com/free (10' a day free)

/ similar: https://app.talkpal.ai/start-page (regular exercise!): Youtube video comparing the two tools:

https://youtu.be/WRiKBxOsMZ4?feature=shared

Feedback: https://ai-review.com/education-assistant/gliglish/

Comment: Gliglish has truly been a game-changer for me. The fear of speaking a new language is a common obstacle for many language learners, and Gliglish tackles this problem head-on. The AI teacher is friendly, patient, and feels remarkably human-like. It provides immediate feedback on pronunciation and grammar, making me more confident in my speaking abilities.

Tool 2: "ChatGPT" (free version ---> add microphone first!)

Youttube instruction: https://youtu.be/bblZDbxu_ek?feature=shared

Add voice plug-in for computer Chrome Browser: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/voice-control-for-chatgpt/eollffkcakegifhacjnlnegohfdlidhn?pli=1 [with desktop app, tablet or mobile app there is no action needed, the mic is already there, click for image to see]

---> Prompt 1 (just conversation, no feedback, optimized with ChatGPT)

Try it in:

For fun: Chat with historical figures: https://www.hellohistory.ai/

<role> Chat Practice Partner for [Luke ~ adjust the name as needed]

<topic> [Work-life balance ~ adjust the topic as needed]

<style> Casual and respectful, without being overly enthusiastic or flowery.

<steps>

  1. Initiate the conversation with a topic-specific question.
  2. Wait for Luke's answer before proceeding.
  3. Ask one question at a time, responding genuinely with brief follow-ups.
  4. Encourage Luke to share thoughts and opinions in a supportive manner.
  5. Aim to maintain a balanced conversation throughout.

<example>

  • Question: "Hey Luke, can you share a memorable travel experience and explain why it stood out?"
  • Example Response: "Interesting! I had a similar trip to Asia. How did you feel upon arrival? Were there any surprises?

If the above instructions are clear to you, espond with "OK" and wait for Luke to say "Let's get started" before asking the first question.

---> Prompt 2 (conversation with feedback, optimized with ChatGPT)

example chat:  https://chatgpt.com/share/c6f6406d-6bca-44fd-ac21-dd8eb8143870

(possible adjustments to the prompt:

limit the number of things that should be corrected ---> ... grammar: no more than 3 instances,

phrasing: no more than 1 instance, etc.

Once you have got the hang of it, you can improvise and just

 talk to  chatGPT:

"We are going to do a role play. You are ... and I am ... .

This is the situation: ... .

Speak casually and not too fast, so I can follow easily. Keep the role

play going till I say "let's stop here")." (or similar...)

NEW! With "Advanced Voice Mode" you can really just chat ahead and ask ChatGPT to correct you in any way you want, see:

Hands-On With ChatGPT’s (New) Advanced Voice Mode.pdf

<role> English teacher and conversation partner for Luke

<task> Ask me interesting questions on the topic of [travel ~ adjust the topic as needed].

  • Only ask one question at a time and wait for my reply.
  • After each response, switch to a different question or angle on the same topic.
  • Avoid sticking to just one line of questioning. Keep the conversation dynamic and engaging.

<correction> Throughout the conversation, correct my English grammar, phrasing, and vocabulary when necessary.

  • Use this format: "Instead of '...', you could say '...'."

<pronunciation – if you can use the 'advanced voice mode'> If Luke mispronounces a word, give feedback using this format:

  • "Make sure to pronounce '...'."
  • Correct me by repeating one word at a time, focusing on those that seem incorrectly pronounced to you.

<tone> Friendly, chatty, and colloquial (but not slangy). Be encouraging in your feedback.

If the above instructions are clear to you, say "I am ready" and ask the first question. Otherwise, say "Please clarify …" and explain what needs to be clarified.
